West Merica Police and Crime Commissioner praises force's special constables

Bromsgrove Editorial 5th Jun, 2018   0

A TIRELESS team of West Mercia Special Constables has clocked up almost 100,000 hours of volunteering throughout 2017, new figures have revealed, writes Ellen Heaselgrave.

The numbers were released as part of National Volunteering Week and equate to the same hours as 50 full-time police officers in a year.

During this time Special Constables supported their regular, local police officers through a huge range of tasks and projects.

Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion said he was grateful to all of the volunteers for their contributions to their communities.

And he added: “Communities can, and do, play an active part in helping us all to stay safe.

“Specials have been part of society for decades and play a vital role in supporting the work of our regular officers.”
