STAFF from two Worcestershire NHS organisations spent last Saturday completing the journey taken by recovering stroke patients to raise funds for the stroke association.

Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust, which runs the county’s stroke rehabilitation centre at Evesham Community Hospital, the community stroke team and neurology rehabilitation, joined forces with colleagues at the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals Trust to complete the journey from Worcester to the Life After Stroke Centre in Bromsgrove.

Participants started their route at Worcestershire Royal Hospital where stroke patients are first treated before walking to Evesham Community Hospital via Pershore Community Hospital.

A cyclist tag team then completed the journey to Bromsgrove’s Life After Stroke Centre, stopping off at the Princess of Wales Community Hospital.

The walk was part of The Stroke Association’s ‘Make May Purple for Stroke’, the national stroke awareness month to raise awareness for people who have been affected by a stroke.

Sarah Adderley, head of stroke at the Stroke Association, said: “Make May Purple is a fun and easy way for everyone to show their support for stroke survivors and we were thrilled that the NHS teams across Worcestershire got involved in such a unique way.”

Marsha Jones, Community Services manager at Worcestershire Health and Care trust added: “I am so proud of all of my colleagues who took part in this challenge with me and helped to raise awareness of stroke and how one can be prevented.”
