CLASSIC British film The Dam Busters is being screened at cinemas across the region to mark the 75th anniversary of the famous ‘bouncing bomb’ raid.

The Empire on Rubery Great Park is one of the picture houses showing it at 7pm on Thursday, May 17.

It follows a 4K restoration of the classic film and a gala event at The Royal Albert Hall, hosted by TV historian Dan Snow, on the same day will coincide with the screenings.

Dan Snow will pay tribute to Wing Commander Guy Gibson and his comrades of the legendary 617 Squadron.

The gala evening will feature special guests, an on-stage ‘bouncing bomb’ experiment plus music from the Glenn Miller Orchestra, also supporting the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund, the RAF’s leading welfare charity.

The proceedings will be screened from 7.15pm to 8.15pm across the cinemas nationwide and then the stunning 4K definition film will be streamed.

The Dam Busters will be available on DVD/Blu-ray/EST and collector’s edition via STUDIOCANAL’S Vintage Classics label from June 4.

It features a host of extras including an exclusive ‘Making of The Dam Busters’ documentary, the feature in different aspect ratios, a 64-page booklet, a rare aerial photographic print of the Möhne Dam following the raid (signed by the surviving members of the original 617 Squadron), an RAF Chastise Lancaster Bombers poster and a set of five art cards.

It can be purchased here, online – https://amzn.to/2I4z400

Tickets for Thursday’s event can be bought by visiting www.thedambusters75.co.uk and searching for ‘Rubery’.
