POLICE intercepted two thieves trying to steal lead from the former Bromsgrove Council House in Burcot Lane.
The pair were caught in the act in the early hours of this morning and Bromsgrove Police worked with West Mercia Police’s Operational Policing Unit to apprehend them.
They are in custody on suspicion of theft.
Insp Gareth Keyte from Bromsgrove Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) said there had been a number of thefts of lead over the last few months from buildings, mainly in the town centre and areas close to it.
He added officers were currently looking into whether the offences were linked to the arrests.
And Insp Keyte also warned residents to remain vigilant, especially when they were having maintenance done on their homes.
“People need to make sure they use reputable tradesmen, from builders, right through to window cleaners.”
Witnesses to any lead thefts or anyone with any information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
