A SERVING soldier who ran the London marathon to raise money for Make a Wish which has been boosted by an anonymous donation of £1,000, writes Neil Gordon.
Wayne Smith checked his just-giving page after running Sunday’s race in 4 hours and 33 minutes to discover that someone had anonymous donated £1,000 after they had read about his fund-raising exploits in the Standard.
Wayne said “The marathon was an amazing experience and to top it off an anonymous person has donated £1,000 which takes me over my target.
“What a fantastic end to a fantastic day.”
Wayne had decided to raise £2,000 for Make a Wish after he and his girlfriend applied to the charity for his girlfriend’s terminally-ill daughter Lily-Mai to meet ‘Mr Tumble.’
That wish has been granted and seven year-old Lily-May, who attends Chadsgrove School in Bromsgrove, is set to the meet the children’s entertainer at the end of this month.
