Barnt Green and Bromsgrove to battle it out for Rivals Trophy

Bromsgrove Editorial 29th Mar, 2018   0

BARNT Green and Bromsgrove will do battle over two weekends next month in a bid to claim the inaugural Rivals Trophy.

The two Birmingham League sides will lock horns on Saturday, April 7 for a 50-over match at Green’s Cherry Hill Road followed by a T20 match at Bromsgrove’s St Godwald’s Park the day after.

Andy Sutton’s Green and Mark Evenson’s Boars then play another 50-over game at St Godwald’s on Saturday, April 14 before returning to Cherry Hill Road for a second T20 encounter the next day.

The ‘friendly’ cup competition will offer the two rivals the perfect preparation ahead of their respective Premier Division and Division One campaigns which get underway on Saturday, April 21.

Green are at home to Kenilworth Wardens while Bromsgrove entertain Leamington.

Evenson said the warm-up to the new season would provide the Boars with a good test against Premier Division opponents but was confident his side had what it takes to claim silverware.

“At this time of year it’s all about overs under the belts and time in the middle but with it being two local rivals there will be a bit of extra spice to the games,” he said.

“Playing Barnt Green will be a good test to see where we are as a side but we have the ability to beat them.

“With the season coming round so soon we are looking forward to getting back into some action – weather permitting.”
