Hunter confirmed as new Avoncroft skipper

JONATHAN Hunter has been named as the new captain of Avoncroft.

Hunter, who joined the Worcestershire County League Division Three side in 2016, takes over as skipper from Mark Whitehead.

“I am really looking forward to the challenge,” said Hunter.

“We have a good group of lads that on their day can challenge anyone in the league.

“The season is going to be a big learning curve for myself but I have some experience among the ranks to support me and share ideas and it’s something that I am really looking to giving a go.”

Avoncroft finished eighth last season and Hunter is hoping his side can be competitive in every game they play.

He added he wanted to see batsmen score ‘big runs’ and bowlers take ‘lots of wickets’.

“Everyone in the top seven is capable of scoring big runs and it’s about turning those fifties into hundreds,” said Hunter.

“If that doesn’t happen the lads are going to get fed up of me talking about moving myself up the order.”
