Will you be taking part in this year's RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch this weekend?

FAMILIES across Worcestershire are being invited to join the nation to discover what birds are visiting our gardens.

The campaign group’s Big Garden Birdwatch is set to bring more than half-a-million people together from tomorrow to Monday, January 27 to 29, to discover what is happening in their garden, helping to create an annual snapshot of how UK birds are doing.

This year the RSPB is curious to see how these figures will change following a positive year for some of our resident British birds, such as greenfinch, chaffinch, blue tit, great tit and long-tailed tit.

Last year in Worcestershire, the top garden visitor was the house sparrow, followed by blackbird and blue tit.

Taken together, and with 38 years of data from previous birdwatches to call on, the event allows the RSPB to monitor trends.

The RSPB is also asking about the other wildlife seen in our gardens over the past year, such as badger, fox, grey squirrel, red squirrel, muntjac deer, roe deer, frog and toad, to help build an overall picture of how important gardens are in giving nature a home.

Webbs of Wychbold and Studley Garden Store at Mappleborough Green will also be holding RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch events over the weekend offering visitors the chance to discover more about their local wildlife.
