A REDNAL brain injury charity is calling out for votes so it can bag a share of funding from the Tesco Bags of Help scheme.
Headway Birmingham and Solihull is up against two other community groups for up to £4,000. The cash has been raised from carrier bag sales in Tesco stores.
If chosen, the charity plans to use the funds to develop the outside spaces at its brain injury rehabilitation centre in Rednal.
Shoppers are being invited to head along to Tesco stores during January and February to cast their vote with a token.
Sue Tyler, CEO at Headway Birmingham and Solihull said: “We have a small courtyard we use as a sensory garden, a paved patio area used for outdoor education sessions and sports activities, and a more traditional garden with a greenhouse and poly-tunnel used for gardening club.
“Any proceeds raised through the Tesco Bags of Help scheme will go towards refreshing these facilities, ensuring our brain injured clients can continue to enjoy them.”
Tesco’s Bags of Help project, launched with Groundwork, has already delivered more than £40million to 9,700 projects up and down the UK and customers get the chance to vote for three different groups every time they shop.
Every other month, when votes are collected, three groups in each of Tesco’s regions will be awarded funding.
Groundwork’s National Chief Executive Graham Duxbury said: “We’ve been thrilled to see the diversity of projects that have applied for funding, ranging from outdoor classrooms, sports facilities, community gardens, play areas and everything in between.
“We’re looking forward to learning the results of the customer vote and then supporting each group to bring their project to life.”
Anyone can nominate a project and organisations can apply online.
