PLANS have been submitted to Bromsgrove District Council for a two-storey drive-thru McDonald’s restaurant to be built close to the town centre, bringing more than 65 full and part-time staff.
The application was submitted towards the end of last month for the site in between Stourbridge Road and Birmingham Road.
The building will be able to accommodate 120 people to either eat their food in the restaurant or outside or take food away.
According to the plans the entrance will be on the Stourbridge Road, although the junction will need widening, and there will be car parking spaces, disabled spaces and cycle racks for eight bikes.
The proposal also states ‘natural and neutral colours and materials will be used on the building and throughout the scheme to ensure the site integrates easily with the surroundings’.
With regard to the jobs, there will be the opportunity for staff to improve their skills and training through the internal management training programme. Staff will be given the opportunity to gain naturally recognised qualifications in hospitality, literacy and numeracy.
A McDonald’s spokesperson told The Standard: ““We can confirm that we have submitted a planning application for a new drive thru restaurant in Bromsgrove.
“If approved, we believe the new restaurant would bring investment to the local community as well as creating new full and part-time jobs.”
The last time McDonald’s had a restaurant in Bromsgrove was more than ten years ago when the fast food giant was based on the High Street. That closed its doors on March 31, 2007, after the restaurant had been in the town for 21 years.
The current nearest McDonald’s are in Wychbold and Longbridge.
