YOUNG people from Bromsgrove are learning how to manage money wisely and to avoid debt as part of a national campaign.
The Children’s Safety Education Foundation (CSEF) campaign, sponsored by Bromsgrove District Council, works with schools to raise awareness on how to be money-wise.
Running until July, it teaches students about the pitfalls of borrowing money, overspending and the dangers of illegal lenders before they reach an age where they might experience these situations for themselves.
The project is being delivered as part of citizenship classes across North Bromsgrove and South Bromsgrove High Schools with more than 700 14-18-year olds and the Council has sponsored it to the tune of £4,000.
Coun Brian Cooper, whose Portfolio covers Finance and Enabling, said: “As is set out in our Council Plan, we are committed to helping improve financial independence.
“Most of us will have some kind of debt as we go through life but some of us may reach a point, where finances get too difficult to manage.
“This can end with no options but to get into high interest credit arrangements or borrow money from loan sharks.
“So we are delighted to be working Money-Wise to work with schools to help young people to manage money later in life.”
