Northfield driver who rammed police car jailed for three years

A BANNED driver from Northfield who rammed a police car in a stolen vehicle during a failed attempt to flee officers has been jailed for three years.

Teenager Reece Williams-Brown, of Oddingley Road, hit speeds of 60mph in a 40mph zone and mounted the pavement after he was spotted driving a Nissan X-Trail on false plates in Birmingham.

The car had been stolen from a driveway earlier in the same day when it was spotted by officers in the Heartlands area on November 12.

Williams-Brown was blocked into a cul-de-sac but then reversed into the unmarked vehicle – which had its blue lights on – before driving off.

After being confronted by queuing traffic, Williams-Brown drove on to the pavement and narrowly missed two pedestrians.

He came to a stop just before a large group of people after hitting a bollard.

The 18-year-old jumped from the car and tried to run off, but was quickly caught by the two officers who had chased him on foot.

The car had been stolen after the keys and other personal belongings were taken during a break-in less than 24 hours earlier.

Williams-Brown pleaded guilty to burglary, theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous driving and driving while disqualified and was sentenced at Birmingham Crown Court last Thursday.

PC Diana Humphries, from the roads policing unit at West Midlands Police, said: “Williams-Brown showed no regard for others or the law; he rammed a police car and could have seriously injured someone.

“Hopefully this sentence will serve as a deterrent to others.”
