Special celebration to toast AgeUK's Rubery charity shop

Tristan Harris 9th Dec, 2017   0

A SPECIAL celebration was held on Tuesday to toast the fifth anniversary of Rubery’s AgeUK charity shop.

The event was organised by the Bromsgrove, Redditch and Wyre Forest branch of the charity.

As part of proceedings, some of the shop’s volunteers were also celebrated, including Shaun Gordon who has supported the shop for the last five years.

The shop, officially opened by Coun Margaret Sherrey in 2012, has recently joined Worcestershire’s Safe Places Scheme which sees it provide people with a short term ‘safe place’ to go for people if they have a problem, feel threatened or are worried when out and about.

Sheelagh Keen, chair of the board of trustees for the AgeUK branch, said the shops were a key part of what the charity did.

She added they provided a key source of funding, enabling the charity to provide support and services across North Worcestershire.

Sue Howdle, the AgeUK’s retail manager, said it was wonderful how the Rubery shop had developed in the past five years as most of the customer base were from the village most of the volunteers lived there.
