Bromsgrove Folk Club to hold its annual Autumn Showcase next Thursday

Tristan Harris 22nd Oct, 2017   0

BROMSGROVE Folk Club will hold its annual Autumn Showcase on Thursday night, October 26.

The event at 8pm at Catshill Social Club, Meadow Road, will see four acts take to the stage who have never appeared at the club before.

Among them are Notts Alliance, Mac and Friends, Set ‘em up Joe and Thomson, York and Moore.

Notts Alliance is an unaccompanied harmony group with traditional folk material.

They have become renowned for their tight and inventive harmonies and their repertoire includes arrangements of songs from some of the best songwriters of today, including Richard Thompson, Pete Morton and Maggie Holland.

Mac and Friends was started by Mac Rawlins, a former member of the folk club’s resident band Fairfield.

He joined the local operatic society and formed a group to assist him in playing his favourite songs. Mixed with the music is plenty of humour.

Set ‘em up Joe are a four-piece band from Malvern who are well-known for their vast repertoire of folk, country and jazz songs and tunes. The upbeat and infectious band have been together for years and have played at many festivals, concerts and pub gigs.

And Thomson, York and Moore play mostly original songs featuring guitars, harmony vocals and mandolin. Their CD was recently featured on local radio.
