Hollywood teenager Sophie Sprigg named as one of the country’s best young drivers

HOLLYWOOD teenager Sophie Sprigg has been named as one of the country’s best young drivers, writes Lewis Glennon.

Despite only being 14 she beat 40 other youngsters in the Young Driver Challenge at the NEC, wowing judges with her performance behind the wheel.

She was praised for demonstrating impressive maneuvering moves such as parallel parking and tight steering.

Sophie said: “There was a lot to try and remember, but it was really good fun as well.




“I’m delighted to have done so well.

“I’m looking forward to driving on the road at 17, but it’s good to know I’ve already got some experience behind the wheel.’’


Young Driver is the country’s largest provider of pre-17 driving lessons, with hundreds of youngsters between ten and 16 entering the competition at one of the organisation’s 50 sites.

It aims to encourage youngsters to consider responsible and safe driving, with the finalists being required to drive instructors around a mock road in a dual-control Vauxhall Corsa.

Laura White, head of marketing for Young Drivers, said: “These youngsters take learning to drive extremely seriously, and much as they have a great time, our primary aim has always been to create a safer next generation of drivers.’’
