Protherough: Bromsgrove yet to hit top gear

Bromsgrove Editorial 5th Oct, 2017   0

DIRECTOR of rugby Dan Protherough insists Bromsgrove are yet to hit top gear, despite making it five Midlands One West wins on the bounce at the weekend.

The Boars came from 11-0 down on Saturday to secure a 19-14 victory at Hereford to consolidate top spot.

Sam Bostock picked up an unconverted try while the in-form Josh Holt also went over, with Chris Hooper kicking the extras.

Hooper then crossed the line himself with Richard Mahoney converting.

Despite the victory, hard-to-please boss Protherough believes there is more to come from the Boars.

“We are yet to hit top gear,” he said. “We were quite slow out the blocks on Saturday and our attack was not functioning properly in the first 25 minutes.

“We managed to take the lead before the break but the frustrating thing was we had a good spell at the start of the second half but we failed to score.

“That set up a tense finish but we managed to grind out the win which is a good thing.

“When you look at football, the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United do not win 4-0 every game.

“They have to nick games here and there by winning ugly and grind out 1-0 results and that’s what we are doing right now.”

Bromsgrove are out of action this weekend which gives the players the chance to shake off a few knocks before their next league game on Saturday, October 14 when Lutterworth are the visitors to Finstall Park.
