SCHOOLS, community groups, shops and other businesses across Bromsgrove and Rubery held events for The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning last week.

  • Members of Bromsgrove’s Got 2 Sing contemporary choir raised £138.39 from their coffee and cake sale which was held as part of their rehearsals. When that total was added to the other Got 2 Sing choirs’ totals more than £1,500 was raised for the cause.

  • Students at Victoria’s School of Dance in Longbridge all donated and sold cupcakes during their classes to raise funds.

  • At Knights Pharmacy in Birmingham Road, Bromsgrove, £205.87 was collected which was doubled by the company to take the grand total to £411.74. A spokesperson for Knights Pharmacy said: “We are very proud to help support such a worthy cause and we hope that the funds raised will help, support and make a difference in people’s lives”

  • Pupils, parents and staff from Winterfold School enjoyed coffee donated by Starbucks at their Macmillan Coffee Morning. There were also lots of homemade cakes created for the occasion which was organised by The Friends of Winterfold School, along with plenty of cash raised.

  • The Language Base Unit at Lickey Hills Primary School saw £64 collected for Macmillan Cancer Support by offering hot drinks, cakes as well as soup made from vegetables grown by students at the school. The unit is one of four primary units in the county where the Language Base staff plan and work with speech and language therapists to deliver therapy and learning as an integral part of the curriculum. Jane Hateley, Language Base class teacher and approved dyslexia specialist tutor, said: “The Macmillan coffee morning created an ideal opportunity to bring all our parents together for an informal coffee morning in order to launch our strong working partnership with our parents this academic year. “Our parents have also contributed to the amazing outside area of the infant class.”

  • Children, parents and staff from Jellybabies Nursery and Pre-School, based at Longbridge Methodist Church, held their well-attended event at the Coffee Pot cafe, raising £100 in total. During the week leading up to the event, youngsters learnt about people in need and how they could be helped. They were also taught about the roles of doctors and nurses and learnt Makaton sign language to the classic rhyme ‘Miss Polly Had a Dolly’.
