THE ANNUAL Belbroughton Scarecrow Festival will take place this weekend in the village.
The event, between 10am and 4pm tomorrow and Sunday, will have a ‘Fables and Fairytales’ theme and feature a host of activities as well as the straw characters.
There will be children’s rides and a host of live entertainment.
Among those taking to the stage will be Serenity, Sing and Tonic, Uncomplicated, Gucci Pimp, Stagecoach Stourbridge, Bobby’s Girls, The 3 Sixties, Lucy Williams and ukulele player and singer Joe James Thomas who won this year’s Search for a Star at the Austin Sports and Social Club.
There will also be an dramatic display by Rich Goodwin – air stunt man and his high energy muscle biplane aerobatics, along with food and drink.
And, after its successful inauguration last year, the bake off competition returns. Judges are looking for the best Victoria sandwich, lemon, chocolate, fairy and carrot cakes around. And for the braver bakers, there is the ‘Showstopper’ category where cakes must have a fables and fairytales theme.
Prizes will be given out for the best scarecrow, most original scarecrow, best interpretation of the theme, the prize for the technical/creative merit, best scarecrow name pun and best guest scarecrow, made outside the visit.
This week youngsters from Belbroughton School have been busy making their scarecrows for the extravaganza.
Headteacher Clare Bishop told The Standard: “Making the scarecrows for the festival is something the children always look forward to and I’m sure by the time the weekend comes we will have some pretty impressive creations to display.
Tickets (which can be used both days) are £15 per car on the gate or £11.25 in advance from the festival website.
