A POPULAR running course for absolute beginners is set to start in the Bromsgrove district.
Led by professionals and supported by the NHS, Couch to 5k is a nine-week course which helps people ditch the couch and become able and confident to run five kilometres.
The weekly sessions include a series of downloadable podcasts designed to structure each run with music and coaching and develop running technique, speed and stamina progressively over time.
The new courses, which are all £1 a session, start from Monday, September 11, and will run on Mondays at 6pm at Lickey End Recreation Ground, Wednesdays at 6pm at Sanders Park (meeting at the bandstand), and Thursdays at 6pm at Catshill Meadow.
Coun Peter Whittaker, Bromsgrove District Council’s portfolio holder for Leisure, said: “We’ve been supporting these groups for a few years now and they are very popular.
“Many people have surprised themselves and found that couch to 5k was the kick start that helped them ease into the more active lifestyle they wanted.”
Many graduates from local Couch to 5k groups go on to join local running groups, including parkrun, and continue a new healthier lifestyle.
