BOSS Paul Smith has bolstered his striking options at Bromsgrove Sporting after capturing the services of Connor Deards from Alvechurch.

After bringing in Ricardo Richards from Highgate United and welcoming summer signing Wade Malley back from his week’s holiday at Halesowen Town, the Rouslers boss was delighted to sign Deards from their near neighbours.

Deards, who joined Alvechurch in February 2014 from Studley, made 46 appearances and scored nine times last season for the Lye Meadow outfit who secured the Midland League Premier Division title.

The former Walsall, Rushall Olympic and Redditch United forward now joins up with Smith who needs options with Jason Cowley (groin) and Reece Hewitt (hip) needing time out to recover from their knocks.

Fellow forward Chrisi Conway is also out for the season after picking up an anterior cruciate ligament injury in training.

“I have been looking to bring Connor in for some time,” said Smith.

“He’s got two very food feet, he’s decent in the air and very quick.

“But most importantly he has experience of winning this league.

“It’s a big signing for us and one which I am over the moon with.”

Smith has also drafted in goalkeeper Brendan Bunn, the brother of Sporting midfielder Robbie Bunn, from Gresley for Saturday’s league clash against Rocester as first-choice keeper Reece Francis starts his three-game ban after being sent off in the 2-0 defeat at Coventry Sphinx at the weekend.

Experienced keeper Ryan Price, who featured in Sporting’s remarkable FA Vase run last season, could feature at Westfields on Wednesday night and then against Sporting Khalsa the following Saturday.
