THE NORTHFIELD branch of Sainsbury’s has chosen its Local Charity of the Year.

Staff and customers at the supermarket will be collecting the cash for the next 12 months for the Longwill School for deaf children, based at Bell Hill, Northfield.

The launch of the new drive, which featured a book sale, has already raised £197 and £147 has been collected through a bucket collection by John Bowyer.

Alison Carter, head of the school, said everyone there was absolutely thrilled to have been chosen.

“We can’t wait to work together and raise the profile of our charity over the next year.

“Thank you to all the customers who voted for us, we really appreciate the support.”

Sainsbury’s Northfield store manager Frank Bullen said staff were looking forward to working with the school and meeting the children next term.
