A BROMSGROVE man has raised £2,500 for charity by taking on a 177 mile walk between England and Wales.
Andy Frizzell hiked along Offa’s Dyke Path between Sedbury Cliffs, Chepstow, on the Severn Estuary and Prestatyn on the North Wales coast to raise vital funds for the Midlands Air Ambulance Charity (MAAC).
Taking 13 days to complete, Andy crossed the finish on his 63rd birthday, smashing his original target of £1,000.
Andy, who is self-employed and in the film and TV industry, chose the MAAC because he thought it was a worthy cause.
And coincidentally, after he had chosen the charity, he learnt a former girlfriend had also been helped by the air ambulance.
He said: “I feel a tremendous amount of pride because a number of the people who supported me and helped me achieve my intended goal of completing my Offa’s Dyke Challenge.
“On the hike, I was humbled and moved by the generosity of people along my route.
“Whether it was a lovely lady in Redbrook post office who emptied her purse or the American couple who offloaded their loose change on me, it was wonderful.
“I made a number of new friends and earnt a lot of respect from existing friends for doing what I did.”
Andy also thanked Jo and James Burrows and all their staff and regulars at the Hop Pole Inn Bromsgrove for being so supportive during his project.
