A CONCEPT garden designed by a Longbridge housing developer and national designer scooped gold at a prestigious flower show.

The first ever brownfield conceptual garden by St. Modwen and Martyn Wilson, of Wilson Associates Garden Design, won the gold medal award at this year’s RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show.

Featuring in the category of ‘Gardens for a Changing World’, the ‘Brownfield Metamorphosis’ garden took an abstract look at regeneration, demonstrating nature’s ability to succeed against the odds and rejuvenate an open space.

The concept garden was punctuated by a series of monolithic steel structures that evoke the manufacturing engine-room of the Industrial Age.

RAF veteran Mr Wilson, a former town planner with Worcestershire County Council, said: “I’m incredibly chuffed and so grateful to everyone who helped me create this garden, especially my sponsors St. Modwen.

“It’s been such a tremendous pleasure building this show garden at RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show and to get a gold medal is fantastic.”

Martyn’s garden is also helping to raise the profile of cancer charity UCARE (Urology Cancer Research and Education) at the show with volunteers greeting visitors.

Mark Allan, Chief Executive at St. Modwen said: “Sponsoring the first ever brownfield garden at Hampton Court was a great opportunity for St. Modwen to showcase the need to create and open up previously disused spaces for future generations to enjoy.”

RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show runs from July 4 to 9, visit www.rhs.org.uk/shows-events/rhs-hampton-court-palace-flower-show for more information.
