BROMSGROVE District Council has received a prestigious award for helping people improve their home heating and insulation.

The authority was runner-up in the ‘vulnerable customer support campaigner’ category at the West Midlands Regional Energy Efficiency and Healthy Homes Awards.

The accolade led to the authority and Redditch Borough, because the services are shared between the two, being named ‘Council of the Year’.

Kath Manning, the council’s climate change and energy support officer, said: “ We’re delighted to be recognised for helping homeowners reduce their energy bills, tackle fuel poverty and reduce carbon emissions.”

She added the Bromsgrove Energy Efficiency Fund was designed to help people to put better, cheaper heating systems in their homes and can also help with loft and cavity insulation.

Homeowners with a household income below the Worcestershire average of £37,000 may be eligible for £500 towards replacing their old boiler.

For more details and to check if they are eligible, residents can call Act on Energy on 0800 988 2881.
