IT was all aboard for a weekend of Bank Holiday fun as Wythall Transport Museum welcomed visitors to explore their vast collection of vehicles.
With vintage buses, milk floats, and model trains galore, guests were invited to take a trip down memory lane and learn about the history of transport in the Midlands.
As well as some springtime bus rides, guests were treated to a display by the Model Bus Federation and could enjoy some of nearly 40 vintage bus rides available on different vehicles dating from 1930s right up to the 1990s.
Despite the unsettled weather, visitors made the most of what the museum on Chapel Lane has to offer with exhibits, video displays and experts on hand on answer questions and even a ride on the miniature steam railway, constructed and operated by the Elmdon Model Engineering Society.
“We were very lucky with the weather so visitors were able to enjoy the bank holiday bus rides without too much interruption,” said Wythall Chairman Dave Taylor.
“It’s always rewarding to see the number of families enjoying themselves – and Monday was particularly busy. With the miniature train, the picnic area and the ‘kids kabin’ play shed all geared towards younger visitors, there’s something for the whole family to enjoy as well as transport enthusiasts.”
Home to more than 90 buses including Midland Red, corporation fleets from Birmingham and independent operators such as Harper Brothers, the transport museum also has a large collection of battery and electric road vehicles, including more than 30 electric milk floats and bread vans.
The next full event day is Father’s Day on June 18. Visit http://www.wythall.org.uk/index.asp to find out more.
