Avoncroft hoping to create some surprises against rivals Himbleton, says skipper Whitehead

AVONCROFT skipper Mark Whitehead is geared up for this weekend’s Worcestershire County League Division Three local rivals Himbleton.

Sixth placed Croft travel to the Meadow Boys on Saturday hoping to close the gap on their third placed opponents.

Whitehead’s side were dealt a blow at the weekend as their home clash against Bartestree and Lugwardine fell foul of the weather.

The abandonment brought an abrupt end to Croft’s good run of form as they had claimed back-to-back victories prior to Saturday’s wash-out.

But the Croft skipper has quickly put that disappointment behind him and is fully focused on the challenge which lies ahead against big hitters Himbleton.

“I expect to come up a very strong batting side in Himbleton who will be a challenge to contain,” Whitehead said.

“It’s going to be good battle and if we bowl well as unit then I think we can do enough damage to give ourselves a good chance of winning.”

With only Sam Hughes missing for Croft this weekend, Whitehead is hoping his team can cause some problems.

“We have a good bowling attack which has been firing collectively now for the last few games,” he added.

“I am hoping we can create some surprises.”
