FANS of Electronica music are in for a treat at 7pm next Saturday (May 27) when a charity gig takes place at Rubery’s Coldstream Pub with proceeds going to Alzheimer’s Research UK.
The event organiser and musician Stuart Bishop (pictured), a synth enthusiast, is hoping to raise £1,000 for the charity by the end of 2017.
Stuart was inspired into fund-raising for the charity after visiting his nan Betty Lees, 90, who has dementia.
“When I visited my nan just before Christmas, I became extremely distressed at the changes in her behaviour and how dementia had affected her.
“I decided there and then to take action and organise my own live music show to raise funds for Alzheimer’s Research UK.”
Betty, from Birmingham, was diagnosed four years ago. Prior to this the much-loved member of the community worked in the Post Office.
Alzheimer’s Research UK studies have helped prevent, diagnose and treat dementia and other age-related mental illnesses.
Zoe Baggot, the regional fund-raising officer for the charity, said she was grateful for Stuart’s hard work, adding fund-raising efforts like this would help defeat dementia sooner.
As well as the DJ set featuring various genres of electronic music, a raffle will be held.
Anyone who cannot attend event but is interested, can catch it live online for free on YouTube. Tickets are £5 on the door.
