PLANS TO make Bromsgrove station a major stopping point for traditional locomotive hauled excursions have been boosted after more than 60 people boarded a railtour to Yorkshire, writes Neil Gordon.

Last month (April 29) Pathfinder Tours ‘York Moors Explorer’ stopped at Bromsgrove enroute to York, Scarborough and the and North Yorkshire Moors Railway, with over 60 people joining the train at Bromsgrove.

The company have scheduled a number of its excursions to stop at Bromsgrove as they believe that there is sufficient interest from the public in travelling on locomotive hauled trains.

Peter Watts of Pathfinder’s said “We were delighted to see so many people join us, and are now very optimistic for the future that Bromsgrove will become a major stopping point for us.”

“Everyone enjoyed themselves whether they visited York, the wilds of the Moors or the seaside at Scarborough.

Mr Watts added “A number of passengers chose premier dining and were treated to a glass of bucks fizz and a full English breakfast, plus a four course dinner of braised beef rib on the return journey.”

Next month the ‘Welsh Central Liner’ will be calling at Bromsgrove for a journey along the Heart of Wales Line before a break in Shrewsbury.

A class 55 heritage diesel will haul the train, with this expected to be the first time that this type of locomotive will stop at Bromsgrove. Visit wwwpathfindertours.co.uk for more information.
