SPEAKERS from Stourbridge edged out their Bromsgrove counterparts in the annual Blarney Stone contest which is held for speakers clubs from across the West Midlands.
The event, named after the famous stone in Ireland which is said to give the ‘gift of the gab’ if kissed was hosted by Bromsgrove Speakers Club at its base at The Barn, at The Bell in Belbroughton.
Each club entered a team of four – a chairman and three speakers and the theme for the speeches was ‘Town, Countryside and The Seaside’.
The evening was attended by members from both clubs and a raffle organised by the Bromsgrove team raised £40 for the group’s chosen charity The Primrose Hospice.
Both clubs are members of the National Association of Speakers’ Clubs and meet bi-weekly.
