Will you be taking part in this year's Forget Me Not Walk for Bloodwise Bromsgrove?

Tristan Harris 15th May, 2017   0

THERE is now just three weeks to go to the 2017 Bloodwise Bromsgrove Forget Me Not Walk which takes place on June 11.

There are five distances to choose from – one-mile, three miles, five miles, eight miles or 12 – and all walks start at Sanders Park.

The Bloodwise Bromsgrove branch was launched in 1988 and so will celebrate its 30th anniversary next year.

Those behind the campaign are hoping the branch will have raised £1million for the cause by the time that marvellous milestone comes around.

And it is also hoped the Forget Me Not Walk, which saw 130 people take part last year, raising an impressive £6,000, will edge Bloodwise Bromsgrove even closer to that amount.

The fund-raising total sinde 1988 currently stands at £973,000.

People need not worry if they have not yet signed up – you can register by visiting the Bloodwise Bromsgrove website or by calling Nicole Harris for an entry form on 01527 878493.

You can even or you can even put your name down on June 11 – the day of the event.

After starting in Sanders Park, the routes take participants around the beautiful countryside of Dodford, Chaddesley Corbett and Bournheath.

The strolls will be marshalled by members of the Bromsgrove Ramblers and other volunteers and the shorter distances – one and three miles – are great for children to do. Maybe you could even have a picnic in the park afterwards.

Here are the different walks and what they entail….

The Hedgelayers Walk

The shortest of the three main walks at five miles. Explore in-depth the trees, shrubs and hedgerow plants so vital for everyday life in the middle ages. The route through rolling farmland goes to the fascinating village of Dodford, via ancient lanes and tracks, crossing streams and passing two fine country pubs.

The Chartists Walk

This takes you through predominantly pastoral rolling hills, dotted with farms, houses and ancient woodlands along its eight-mile route. Quiet lanes, byways, medieval tracks and footpaths are used. Cow-parsley and buttercups line the route as you tread in the footsteps of the Chartists.

The Foresters Walk

At 12 miles, this is the longest walk and explores the impressive remnants of the Royal Hunting Forest of Feckenham. Traditional wildflower meadows and rolling farmland create the backdrop for this walk. Chaddesley Wood Nature Reserve is managed as a valuable remnant of the ancient woodland, and is home to important species of plants, animals, birds and insects. Oak trees dominate the woodland with rowan, birch, hazel and hawthorn mixed in. Carpets of bluebells in the woods are a good sign of undisturbed ground.

Entry Fees

The entry fees are £10 for adults (£12.50 on the day), £5 for juniors (under 12s) and a special £28 for a family of four (£30 on the day).

There will be t-shirts for adults and medals for children who take part in the walk.

Every walker needs to wear suitable footwear and take refreshments with them.

The 12-mile walk begins at 10am, the eight-mile at 10.30am, the five-mile at 11am, the three-mile at 11.15am and the one-mile at 11am.

Please come and support this fantastic walk for a fantastic cause.
