New My Little Angels' sessions in Bromsgrove place emphasis on fun and spending quality time

PARENTS looking to spend some quality time with their babies or toddlers can go along to some new sessions which have been launched in Bromsgrove.

‘My Little Angels’ was started last month by Becky Comer in a room at the Blue Giraffes Nursery, Recreation Road – at 9.30am and 2pm Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday for babies and at 10.45am and 1pm for toddlers.

Each session is themed, for example on ‘animals’ or ‘rainbows’, and tailor made to those who are there on that day.

Each one begins with the ‘hello’ song and then features a variety of activities, including songs, which children can join in with, instrumentals, where youngsters play percussion instruments, dancing and movement.

The music used has been written by a local musician specifically for the sessions and ranges from fast and slow and loud and quiet.

There is also a ‘treasure chest’ full of items based on that week’s theme and sensory items for children to see, touch and hear.

Each session concludes with bubbles, a story and the ‘goodbye’ song.

At the end, there is no need for parents and children to rush off however – everyone is welcome to stay behind, chat with others who have youngsters of similar ages and check out the community board which features other activities, help and support available in the Bromsgrove area.

The sessions have been created and written by Becky who has had extensive experience in the care sector, including working in mental health, with people with learning difficulties, autism, Aspergers and adhd.

She decided to launch the sessions after she was made redundant from the job she loved – working for ‘Stronger Families’.

Becky said: “I wanted to take everything I had learnt over the last few years and put it to good use to benefit people and the community.

“I’m a mum and know what it is like having young children – sometimes, particularly if your little one has had a bad night or you’ve had no sleep, you feel like you need to chill out and relax and there is an element of parents offering help and support to each other during the sessions.

“I have been to groups in the past which can be a bit clicky – whereas this is nothing like that.

“Both the room and the sessions have a real homely, bright and friendly feel.

“The emphasis is on fun and everyone is made to feel welcome – we want parents and their babies and toddlers to come along and see what My Little Angels is all about.”
