A RUBERY youngster has won a regional gymnastics competition, just months after starting the sport.
Laura Henderson, a student at Holywell Primary School, took up gymnastics in July last year and has since become the West Midlands Regional Grade Five Winner of 2017.
As a member of Flames Gymnastics Club in Birmingham, the nine-year-old practises up to 16 hours a week and is set to continue competing.
Proud of her hard work, parents Mark and Debbie said they are ‘over the moon’ with the result and are amazed at their daughter’s progress.
Mark said: “We are all immensely pleased, she really does love gymnastics and she puts a lot of hard work into it.
“It is hard to juggle training, competing and just being a child but she does it really well.
“To see the look on her face when she won, it was such an amazing, surreal and proud moment.”
