Garden makeover is life-changing for autistic teen from Bromsgrove

AN AUTISTIC teenager from Bromsgrove is now able to play safely after a life-changing garden makeover.

Dan Kinchin, 14, who has learning difficulties including autism, had worn away the grass in his garden over time by running up and down in order to relieve anxiety and stress.

After falling and hurting himself on many occasions, his mum, Maxine, raised up to £2,000 in order to install all-weather artificial grass so Dan can run around safely.

The Marlbrook mum received a personal grant of £500 from OneFamily to kickstart the fund-raising and also made ‘rustic reindeer’ ornaments to sell at her son’s school Christmas fair.

After hearing their story, Landscapia and Quickgrass Ltd reduced the price and provided free labour to install the grass.

Maxine said: “Being outdoors is vital for Dan’s well being, he uses the garden as a place where he can play without boundaries.

“As a teenager, it’s fantastic that Dan can have his own space outside the house where he’s able to take time-out away from the family, but is still near enough to home that we can look out for him.

“We are so grateful for the support we received and we wouldn’t be where we are now if it was not for the kindness of local landscape companies and OneFamily.”
