POLICE patrols are being stepped up in Rubery following a spate of car crime in the village and in Rednal over the last week.
Officers will be increasing their presence, particularly in the areas near the Waseley Hills, following a number of incidents last weekend.
They will also be liaising with their West Midlands Police colleagues about any incidents happening on the border with south west Birmingham and the Crime Partnership Van will be out and about at the end of the week or early next week. Officers will be on hand to talk to residents and offer crime prevention advice.
In one on the incidents at 9.45pm on Sunday (February 12), a brick was thrown through the driver’s window of a vehicle at 9.45pm in Whetty Lane. Although the window was broken, the vehicle was not entered and nothing was taken.
A windscreen wiper was taken off a vehicle in Barrington Road, Rubery between 10pm on Saturday (February 11) and 1pm on Sunday (February 12).
A back number plate was taken from a car in Holmes Drive, Rubery, between 8pm on Saturday (February 11) and 10am on Sunday (February 12). The vehicle’s registration number was X99 CLP.
Front and back number plates were also taken from a vehicle while it was parked in Rose Hill, Rednal between 9am and 4pm on Saturday (February 11). The number was HF51 KWE.
Then, between 7pm and 7.55pm on Saturday (February 11) in Lyndon Road, Rubery, a vehicle had both of its wing mirrors smashed.
And on Segbourne Road, Rubery, at 8pm on Saturday night (February 11) a lump of wood was used to damage the back windscreen and wing mirrors of a vehicle.
There was also an incident at 6pm on Saturday (February 11) of two youths on mopeds riding through St Chad’s Park.
PC Simon Albutt, from Hagley and Rubery Safer Neighbourhood Team, said the force was aware of the incidents and he urged residents to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity they saw.
