A RANGE of events and exhibitions celebrating the history of Longbridge are taking place throughout February, writes Neil Gordon.
The month-long programme has been organised by Longbridge Public Arts Project (LPAP) to include the ‘Longbridge Mass Observation 2017’ exhibition by Sarah Taylor Silverwood at SPACE on College Street. The exhibition consists of drawings, music and documents from the 2016 observation project.
It runs between now and February 25 with opening times taking place between 11am and 4pm from Thursdays to Saturdays.
A special event to celebrate the Longbridge Mass Observation Exhibition from 5pm to 8pm this evening (Friday).
Residents have also been invited to share their memories of Longbridge through photographs, memorabilia or stories at a workshop entitled ‘Remembering Longbridge.’ The workshop is a joint venture between artist Stephen Burke and Longbridge extra care retirement village.
A talk and presentation organised by Longbridge Railway Station Friends group is also being held with the opportunity for people to become involved with transforming the station through community representation, planting, growing and more. The presentation will be given by the Friends of Coseley Station between 11.30am and 1pm next Saturday (February 18) at the LPAP SPACE, College Street, Longbridge. The Coseley community group will talk about how they have together transformed their own station and other community spaces to support social change and improve their area.
Anyone who cannot make it next Saturday can drop into LPAP for coffee and cake anytime between 1pm and 3pm to find out more about schemes local and national.
Volunteers are also being sought to help with the running and delivery of events, workshops, and gallery space of current and future projects.
