Hagley Parish Councillors and residents hand letter to Highways over concerns

A LETTER has been handed to highways bosses outlining road safety concerns relating to a housing development in Hagley.

The correspondence was handed over by a group of residents led by Coun Steve Colella, chairman of Hagley Parish Councillor and district councillor for Hagley West, and parish councillor Alec Syrotiuk.

Although the intended recipient – Worcestershire County Council’s chief executive – was unavailable, the group were able to get a ‘frank and forthright’ meeting with Highways.

They discussed the CALA Homes development which campaigners say has led to severe safety concerns for both road users and pedestrians and increased congestion.

Coun Colella said surveys were now being conducted to produce traffic data.

“We remain resolute that many of the measures taken as part of the CALA Development are reversed and other long-standing highways issues are addressed.

“It is ironic little investment has been made to tackle the severe traffic problems in Hagley and when there was it made things worse.”

He said he wanted the problems raised as a matter of urgency and, after being unsatisfied with the response from Highways, was now suggesting the county council’s chief executive meets with Hagley Parish Council.

A Worcestershire County Council spokesperson said: “The county council received a letter from the local district and parish council member expressing concerns about this development.

“We have issued a response which we hope will address and allay these concerns.”
