GARY Rowett is reportedly one of the favourites to become the next Swansea City boss.
The Premier League strugglers sacked Bob Bradley on Tuesday jut a day after losing 4-1 at home to West Ham United.
Rowett, dubbed ‘The Bromsgrove Mourinho’ in some parts of north Worcestershire, has been out of work since being controversially sacked as Birmingham City boss earlier this month.
Other leading candidates – according to reports – are Wales boss Chris Coleman and Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs.
Should Rowett take charge of the Welsh club, it will be Rowett’s first experience as a manager of a Premier League club.
He does however have Premier League experience as a player, having played for Everton, Derby County, Leicester City and Charlton Athletic in England’s top flight.
Swansea’s board are expected to consider candidates within the next 48 hours before approaching them for interview.
Rowett was on the TV screens yesterday as a pundit for Birmingham City’s 1-0 defeat away to Derby for Sky Sports.
The 42-year-old said he enjoyed his experience as Birmingham boss but was now seeking a new challenge.
“It was a success in terms of bringing them from where they were, not in terms of achieving promotion or the play-offs because we didn’t, we just missed out,” he said.
“But the biggest things for me were the fans, who were incredible. There were some games where you just enjoyed hearing the fans sing and listening to the atmosphere.
“It was a really positive two years, I had a ball of a time and won’t forget it. But it’s gone and I’ve got to move on for my next challenge.”
