A COUNCILLOR who represents Barnt Green is calling on Highways bosses to put up crossing signs on a busy road in the village.
Coun Peter McDonald wants them installed on Cherry Hill Road which he says, despite resembling a country lane rather than a main road, is used as a rat run by many motorists.
“This has made it extremely dangerous for hikers who cross Cherry Hill Road to get from one side of the Lickey Hills to the other.
“Unfortunately there are no signs whatsoever to warn motorists of people crossing and unless you are a local resident you would not be expecting to see people crossing.”
Coun McDonald said there had already been numerous near misses and with the proposed closure of Kendall End Road with its junction with Bittell Lane, there was the potential for even more traffic down there as Cherry Hill Road would be part of the diversionary route.
“Something needs to be done here as it will be an accident waiting to happen.
“I am calling on the county council to install warning signs as soon as possible – not to do so would be a failure to ensure their duty of care to both motorists and pedestrians – putting them both at risk.”
A Worcestershire County Council spokesperson said: “We think Coun McDonald’s suggestion is a sensible one and we’ll be looking to have these signs put in at the developer’s expense.”
