Bromsgrove Older People launch campaign calling for residents to stop gravel spilling onto pavements

A TOWN campaign group is calling on residents to ensure any stones or gravel on their driveways or gardens do not spill onto pavements as it can become a slip hazard for older people.

Members of the Bromsgrove Forum for Older People contacted The Standard about the issue which has been raised by the organisation’s members and is becoming more of a problem.

Secretary Mary Rowlands said: “Many more householders are having these types of covering on their drives today as they are environmentally friendly, but people may be unaware of the hazard caused to pedestrians, especially those a little unsteady on their feet and those with walking sticks.

“It is very easy to be unbalanced by a stone, resulting in your foot rolling forwards/sideways, walking sticks can slip and Zimmer frames could become unstable.

“If people could sweep the stones/gravel back onto their driveways, this would minimize the likelihood of an accident.”
