Northfield MP Richard Burden calls on South Birmingham residents to support Small Business Saturday

Bromsgrove Editorial 1st Dec, 2016   0

NORTHFIELD MP Richard Burden has called on South Birmingham residents to support the area’s traders during Small Business Saturday which happens this weekend.

Writing for The Standard, in this week’s Westminster Diary, his words are below –

IT IS THAT time of year when the more organised among us will be preparing for Christmas and the festive period.

Whether you are looking to find those last gifts or you are just starting your shopping it’s important we use our spending power to support the local economy, our local high streets and our fantastic local small businesses. That’s why again this year I will be supporting the Small Business Saturday initiative across Northfield, Kings Norton, Weoley Castle and Longbridge on December 3.

Launched in 2013, Small Business Saturday brought a boost to local high streets across the country. Last year’s Small Business Saturday saw customers spend £623million at local businesses – a 24 per cent increase on Small Business Saturday in 2014.

Small Business Saturday gives us the chance to highlight the importance of small businesses in our communities.

As well as encouraging shoppers back to our high streets, it is about saying Northfield is open for businesses and we want entrepreneurs to start new businesses here and that we recognise that small bossiness provide employment for many local people and are a vital part of our local economy.

Something I know many of you passionately support.

So whether it’s a bacon sandwich at the Clock café on Northfield High Street, or looking for that first bicycle from new cycle shop 3CJ Cycle Centre on Longbridge Lane or getting your dry cleaning done at an independent store like C&M dry cleaning on The Green in Kings Norton please do consider going ‘small’ next Saturday. Let’s try and make this the most successful Small Business Saturday on record.

In the meantime as this will likely be my last Westminster diary before the Christmas period, please let me wish you and your family and friends a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
