Young refugee success stories emerge thanks to Bromsgrove and Redditch community support

SYRIAN refugee success stories are gradually emerging thanks to continuous efforts from the Bromsgrove and Redditch Welcomes Refugees Committee.
The Syrian families shared their experiences when more than 60 residents turned up to the event arranged by BRWR at the Redi Centre on Tuesday (October 25).
The event also became a ‘swishing’ party where people brought items of clothing to swap with each other.
Syrian sounds met Brit punk rock at one point when Rubery poet Spoz turned up with his acoustic guitar to jam with a young Syrian guitarist who also played the African djembe.
At the event, another  Syrian youngster in his teens spoke to the Standard about his scholarship to study GCSEs and plans to become an astrophysicist.
His older sister, who is now speaking semi-fluent English, has also integrated into the British education system and is on her way to studying A-level science subjects.
Worcestershire welcomed a total of five Syrian families to the area in June this year, which included babies, teenagers, young parents and elderly grandparents.
Alistair Waugh told the Standard: “Our autumn party was another wonderful welcome to the Syrian families who have settled in the area.”
