ANOTHER push for Cofton Hackett’s Katy Dawson will see nine runners brave the Birmingham Half Marathon on Sunday (October 16).

Katy’s husband, Paul, will be tackling the track with his team which insludes Chloe Gilmore, Anne Farmer, Jennifer Smith and Claire Stevenson to raise money for his wife’s cancer treatment in Germany.

They will also be joined on the 13.1mile trek by local runners Paul Townsend, Craig Heslip, Katie Gooding and Jake Lowe.

All three teams have set up their own fund-raising pages in aid of Katy and have so far raised more than £2,500 towards her next trip for treatment.

Jennifer Smith said: “We have been training really hard for the run and are hoping to raise as much as possible to help Katy fund her next stage of treatment in November.

“Knowing we are raising money for such an important cause has really spurred us on and will keep us going when the half-marathon gets tough on the infamous 11-mile hill.”

Katy has two children, Evan, who is only four-months-old and six-year-old Aurelia.

Her husband, Paul said: “Our friends have all rallied round us since Katy’s devastating diagnosis at 33 weeks pregnant, with lots of fund-raising activities for Katy’s treatment in Germany. The treatment options for Katy’s cancer in the UK are very limited and the German immunotherapy treatment could make all the difference to her prognosis.

“Katy has done brilliantly coping with this awful situation and looking after our small children while undergoing gruelling treatment, but she is devastated at the possibility of not being around for me and the children and we have to keep finding ways of funding the treatment, which is hugely expensive.

“I’ve been running as a hobby for a few years so doing the Birmingham half marathon seemed a great way to raise money for Katy.

“There are quite a few of us running and everyone’s been training hard.

“Our family has received so much support from the local community and without this Katy simply wouldn’t be able to carry on with this potentially life saving treatment.”
