A SPECIAL plaque unveiling ceremony was held in the former school of a Bromsgrove GP in his honour.
On September 6, Professor Sir Michael Drury was commemorated by his family and Bromsgrove School in Lupton House, where he used to study between 1939 and 1943.
Professor Sir Michael went on to study medicine at the University of Birmingham, and he became a GP in Bromsgrove in 1953, practising here for 38 years.
His interest in the management of General Practice prompted him to write ‘The Medical Secretary’s Handbook’ and ‘The New Practice Manager’.
He was later elected Chairman of the Practice Organisation Committee of the Royal College of General Practitioners.
Being a very well-respected governor, vice-president of Bromsgrove School, in 1978 he was appointed an OBE and in 1989 he was appointed a Knight Bachelor.
Headmaster Peter Clague said of Professor Sir Michael Drury: “He was a truly inspiring and remarkable man and his legacy to our school and community is immeasurable.”
