Singh excited by challenge of rotating Barnt Green squad ahead of trip to Coton Green

BARNT Green Spartak boss GJ Singh is ready for the challenge of taking his table topping side to Coton Green this weekend following back-to-back cup victories.

Spartak booked their place in the next round of the Presidents Cup where they will meet Droitwich Spa after Paul Bonar’s 78th minute strike secured a 1-0 victory at Bloxwich Town on Saturday (October 1).

Singh’s men then enjoyed a 4-1 victory over Hampton last night (Wednesday) in the opening round of the Les James Challenge Cup thanks to goals from Benet Parchment, Reece Mills, Darren Green and substitute Jacob Snape and will now meet Northfield Town at a date yet to be confirmed.

And the games come think and fast for the Midland League Division Two early pacesetters as they travel to New Mill Lane on Saturday to take on Rob Masefield’s Green outfit who have only lost once in the league so far, winning one and drawing the other four.

Singh said: “You can’t play great football all the time and that was proved on Saturday as when we got into attacking areas, the players were picking the wrong options but the lads showed great attitude and grafted hard to see us through.

“Then it was great to see us progress on Wednesday but the more pleasing thing for me was I can rotate the squad by choice and when I need to.

“I have not had a left back for the past couple of games due to work commitments but I thought Leon Ward did reasonably well on Wednesday although it took him about 15 minutes to adapt.

“We now move on to Coton Green and of course it will be a tough game. Rob has been in the game as long as I have and has attracted players from his Bolehall Swifts and Castle Vale days but we are going there to win.”

Singh is forced to make several changes for Saturday’s clash though, as Snape, Green, Nathaniel Hare and Stefan Gordon are all unavailable.

And with both goalkeepers also missing, Singh has had to dip into the transfer market to bring in Kenneth Sanders from Midland League Division One side Cadbury Athletic.

“There’s going to be some squad rotation this weekend but that excites me more than it worries me,” added Singh, who is expected to welcome Myron Semper, Kevon Henry and Earl Jordan back into the frame.

“There’s plenty of talent in this squad which means players can come in and get an opportunity but it’s up to them to do their bit.

“If we can cut out some individual mistakes then we’ve got enough going for us to get a result.”
