Young Bromsgrove wrestler Millie to undergo two-hour slamathon in memory of her hero and to raise funds for cancer charity

A YOUNG Bromsgrove wrestler will be body slammed for two hours as part of a sponsored event to raise funds for Cavendish Cancer Care.

Millie Cox, who is 11 and attends Parkside Middle School, will undertake the gruelling challenge at the Pro Wrestling Live club in Darlaston on November 5 in memory of her hero Kris Travis.

Kris, a British wrestler, died in March this year at the age of 32 after a brave battle with cancer.

He was helped with his fight by the Cavendish charity which is based in Sheffield where he was from.

The challenge is fitting as tomorrow (Friday) is National Kris Travis Day and a campaign has been launched to get the grappler the ‘Warrior Award’ at the WWE annual awards which take place as part of Wrestlemania 2017 on April 2 next year.

Millie and Kris were in contact via e-mail and he was her inspiration.

Her dad Cliff Cox, who contacted The Standard, about the event said: “It makes me so proud – she has done all this off her own bat.

“She decided she wanted to do something and she came up with the body slam event.

“Some professional wrestlers have said that – as it will be about 100 slams one after the other – they would physically not be able to do it so it is an amazing achievement,”

Millie, who will be getting advice today from some professional wrestlers, has set herself a fund-raising target of £200.
