Protherough confident Bromsgrove are getting closer to first win

DAN PROTHEROUGH is confident Bromsgrove are edging closer to their first victory of the season despite falling to a 20-15 defeat to Dings Crusaders over the weekend.

The Boars have now lost all three of their opening National Three South West games following Saturday’s (September 17) defeat at Finstall Park.

Jon Critchlow scored all of Brosmgrove’s points with five penalties after switching position from full back to fly half after the break.

The defeat leaves Protherough’s side rock bottom of the table but they’re yet to break into positive numbers as an administration error regarding petrol receipts saw them docked five points by the Rugby Football Union.

Despite their setback, the Brosmgrove boss has urged his players to move on and focus on their next game at Weston-super-Mare-based Hornets on Saturday.

He said: “We’ve got to deal with points deduction even though it comes after we got our fingers burnt from the level transfer decision.

“However, we’ve got to move on from it and focus on each game as it comes. We had some strong spells on Saturday but did not make the most of the situations.

“We almost nicked it at the end but what we need to stop doing is conceding soft tries.

“This league is about half a division stronger than the league we was in last season (National Three Midlands) but we’re developing.

“We’ve got a new squad and it takes time for players to gel but we’ll get there in the end.”

Jack Pons, Nick Empson and Jake Hayden-Wright will miss Saturday’s game due to injuries while Critchlow is away due to family commitments.

“We’re finding our feet at the moment and we’re not far away from where we need to be,” Protherough added.

“If we can get a win on Saturday and then go on a bit of a winning run things will look better.”
