RESIDENTS can find out more about the police and fire service at the annual open day being held at Bromsgrove’s Blue Light Centre, Slideslow Drive.

The event, at the building which was the first combined police and fire station in the UK, will take place between midday and 4pm on Saturday (August 27).

Visitors will be able to get a closer look at fire engines and police vehicles, meet police dogs, including West Mercia Police’s mascot Peeler, and see an exciting demonstrations done by members of the Young Firefighters Association, a smoke house and one showing the dangers posed by chip pan fires

Admission to the extravaganza, which will also feature a number of stalls from community organisations, is free.

The Blue Light Centre, the first purpose-built combined police and fire stations in the UK, was officially opened by HRH Princess Alexandra in October 2014.

The area covered by the station stretches 83.9 square miles and is a mixture of both urban and rural communities.
