Cancer treatment appeal for Cofton Hackett mum passes the halfway mark

THE BROMSGROVE, Rubery and South Birmingham community has rallied round to help mum of two Katy Dawson get more than halfway to her £50,000 fund-raising target to get her to Germany for life-saving treatment.

Katy touched the hearts of residents across the district after they heard about her being diagnosed with a rare form of breast cancer whilst heavily pregnant with her second baby, Evan.

Since then more than £27,000 has been raised on her Go Fund Me Page after hundreds of donations flooded in, including a £140 cheque from St Andrew’s Church Barnt Green and £1,000 from the Baptists Church in Barnt Green.

But the kind-hearted gestures have not stopped there with Bromsgrove Lions Club also giving to the cause and Lickey Hills Primary School due to hold a non-uniform day today (Friday).

Katy’s campaigners will also be hosting a coffee morning at The Trinity Centre from 9am today (Friday) in aid of their brave friend.

Clare Millward, one of Katy’s fund-raisers, said: “A huge thank you to all the wider community who have made contact with us to help, offer donations and local businesses that have made contributions towards the coffee morning.

“We have been overwhelmed by the support and it just shows what fantastic community spirit still exists in our area.

“I feel ecstatic that we are over the half way mark for Katy and £50k seems achievable with all the support we are receiving.”
