Calls for CCTV to be introduced to Rock Hill to clamp down on crime

A SAFETY review is being held into Rock Hill after concerns were expressed to Bromsgrove District Council about the levels of crime and anti-social behaviour.

It follows a campaign led by Coun Michael Thompson, who has called for CCTV to be introduced in the area, and some views conveyed at a Safer Bromsgrove Meeting.

Coun Thompson said: “I was pleased the item made the agenda but a little disappointed the review is not yet complete.

“However, it is progress – the need for CCTV is there and I worry sometimes bureaucracy gets in the way of the needs of vulnerable residents.”

Coun Thompson has also discussed the issue with Labour’s West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner candidate Daniel Walton who gave his backing to the councillor’s campaign.

Coun Thompson said West Mercia Police had redeployable CCTV cameras available which he hoped could be used to provide a short-term solution in Rock Hill.

A North Worcestershire Community Safety Partnership spokesperson said the redeployable cameras was just one option, although no decision on that had yet been made.

“Safer Bromsgrove is actively working with partners and the community to find the best ways forward to reassure residents in relation to issues of community safety.”
