Worcestershire's under-16 Boys do themselves proud on international stage

WORCESTERSHIRE Schools’ FA under-16 Boys did themselves proud in an international tournament over in Spain as they managed to reach the quarter-finals.

Over the Easter period, the under-16 Boys took part in the Mare Nostrum Cup and during the group stages of the tournament, the boys claimed two wins and one draw to book their place in the knock-out stages of the competition.

The under-16s claimed a 1-0 victory over Pinya Bib Eivissa thanks to a goal from Joey Billingham before claiming a 4-0 victory over Arsenal India courtesy of a Ben Tilbury brace and goals from Billingham and Sam Whitton.

In their final group stage game, the under-16s drew 1-1 with C Amigo to confirm qualification; Declan Juliff netting for the boys.




Derby County Academy awaited in the quarter-finals and with the game deadlocked at 0-0, the Rams youth side eventually went on to win 4-3 on penalties.

Worcestershrie Schools’ FA chairman Colin Mortiboys said: “The team and management can be rightly proud of their achievement and we are sure that this has aided their development by participating at an international football tournament.


“We send our congratulations to all of the squad and wish them all an enjoyable time before they head back to the UK.”
